After a long, cold winter, most Denverites are excited about spring. Days become longer, the temperatures rise, the snow disappears and the trees are in bloom. Spring also represents a change in the way people eat. This is the perfect time to visit Little India, the best place for Indian food in Denver. We are a family-owned restaurant, and our menu is full of authentic Indian dishes.
At Little India, we do not take shortcuts or use sub-par ingredients. All our spices are imported from India, and we roast them to make all our marinades and spice blends. We also use Indian clay ovens to prepare our homemade bread. Whether you have dined with us before or are new to Indian cuisine, stop in and try one of our spring-friendly dishes.
Dal Soup
Although the weather is warming up, there is still a bit of a chill in the air, and a warming bowl of soup is the perfect complement. Dal stands for lentils, and this soup combines soft lentils with a variety of herbs and spices for a delicious and healthy way to start your meal.
Vegetable Curry
Indian cuisine is an excellent choice for vegetarians and vegans because there is a wide variety of vegetables, cheese and lentil-based dishes on the menu. Curries are very popular in India, and our vegetable curry is a house specialty. Mixed vegetables are cooked in a medium-thick sauce made with curry spices, tomato, garlic, onion and ginger. Make sure to order a side of regular or garlic naan bread to sop up all the goodness.
Alu Saag
Another vegetarian Indian dish that is great for spring is alu saag. Saag is spinach and alu is potato. The dish is prepared with tomato, onion, garlic, ginger, ground spices, chopped spinach and potatoes, then finished with whipped yogurt for a creamy consistency. For meat lovers, we also offer saag dishes made with chicken, fish, lamb and shrimp.
Lamb Chops
Lamb seems to conjure up spring-like feelings, and fortunately for our guests, lamb is one of the many specialties at Little India. One particularly favorite menu item is our lamb chops. Our chefs marinate lamb chops, cook them hot and fast, and then serve with masala sauce and a side salad.
Tandoori Chicken
One reason Indian food is so delicious is the unique way it is prepared. A clay oven, also known as a tandoor, is used for cooking many of our dishes, and you cannot go wrong with tandoori chicken. We take a bone-in chicken and marinate it in yogurt, herbs, garlic, ginger and spices. It is then baked over mesquite charcoal in a clay oven and served hot and sizzling on a bed of onions. It is served with a side of our tamarind and mint-cilantro chutneys.
Chicken Tikka Masala
At any time of the year, our chicken tikka masala is a favorite with our guests. The cooking method combines tandoori and curries, and the result is a flavorful dish with a thick sauce. The chicken tikka is a top seller, but we also offer masalas made with shrimp, lamb and fish.
